1912–13 Stoke F.C. season
The 1912–13 season was Stoke's 24th season of league football and the fourth in the Southern Football League.
Overview
There were high hopes for Stoke during the 1912–13 season as Stoke managed to retain all the players who performed well last season while new players were brought in to improve competition for places. The main ambition was to finish in the top six, but by Christmas time Stoke were bottom and remained there all season.
The directors blamed a lack of luck while the supporters blamed manager Alfred Barker. However the truth was that Stoke weren't good enough and only 14 goals were scored during the first 15 matches of the season. Players who did well the previous season did not perform and relegation was duly suffered and it was back to the drawing board again for Stoke.
Relegation to the Southern League Division Two was the last thing the current board and chairman Mr A. Hurst needed. The chairman gave manager Alfred Barker another chance by allowing him to stay on for the next season much to the anger of Stoke supporters who vented their anger at an Annual General meeting.
